It's been a tough year for keeping in touch, and chances are there are people you haven't seen in quite some time. So tough, in fact, that the World Health Organization went from their classification of gaming addiction as a mental disorder to encouraging us all to game so we can keep in touch. Yeah, I don't quite get how that works either.
They're right about one thing - gaming is the perfect way to keep in touch with friends and loved ones.
So here's DGP's pick of five games that you're sure to enjoy!
Phasmophobia
The surprise hit of 2020, in Phasmophobia you and up to 3 friends conduct an paranormal investigation of a supposedly haunted location. Using all the tools you have at your disposal (and some you'll need to earn by playing) its up to you to determine what type of apparition haunts the location, get the required evidence, and get out before it gets you. You're able to play in VR or on a screen, and the game gets truly terrifying. Some spectres need you to distance yourself from your teammates in order to show themselves. Others can be hyper aggressive. Just don't say their name out loud unless you're ready for the consequences (the game responds to what you actually say out loud).

Sea of Thieves
Rare's swashbuckling classic has had update after update since its release a few years back. Commanding a sailing ship has never been so satisfying, and now there are more activities than ever to get lost in.
Hunt skeleton pirates, dig up treasure, deliver merchant goods, complete narrative missions, engage ghostly fleets or just plain old steal someone else's treasure. And beware the Kraken...

Among Us
This might not be the best pick for a list of games to play with friends, given that after about 30 minutes, everyone is paranoid and everyone else is 'sus'. Complete tasks on your spaceship with your crew to make it safely to your destination. The twist? You can only see what's in your line of sight, and two of the crew are impostors whose task it is to kill everyone onboard. It's just as batshit crazy as it sounds, and so much more fun.

Eco
If you're after a slower paced game that doesn't demand your full attention, you can't do better than Eco. There's no combat and no death mechanic - just an asteroid that will hit in a few weeks unless you and the rest of the server develop technology to build lasers to destroy it.
Build, trade and learn whilst managing pollution, vote in a server leader, pass laws to make sure you achieve your goal, and learn a novel approach to developing new skills. Eco has surprising depth and can consume vast swathes of time - perfect for long catch ups with friends.

All these games are available in the Steam Autumn sale.
